Energy access only works if products keep working

Who We Are

Building stronger repair systems for off-grid solar

The Off-Grid Solar Repair Lab is a sector-wide initiative working to make solar repair more accessible, affordable and effective across sub-Saharan Africa.

Bringing together industry, researchers, policymakers and practitioners, the Repair Lab generates evidence, tests practical approaches and develops tools that help strengthen repair systems and sustain energy access.

The Challenge

Long-term energy access requires long-term support

Off-grid solar products are reaching millions of households across Africa. But when products fail, repair is often inaccessible or unaffordable.

Without stronger repair systems, communities risk losing access to electricity, while valuable products are left unused or discarded.

What We Offer

What We Do

Test repair models

Testing practical repair approaches in last-mile communities.

Build shared evidence

Building shared evidence to strengthen repair systems across the sector.

Create shared tools

Developing practical tools, frameworks and guidance for repair programmes.

Strengthen local capacity

Supporting local repair networks, training and technical capacity.

Shape enabling policy

Supporting policies and partnerships that make repair more viable at scale.

Core Lab Partners

The Repair Lab brings together organisations from across the off-grid solar sector to test solutions, generate evidence and strengthen repair systems.

Together, we are working to ensure solar products remain affordable to maintain, accessible to repair, and capable of delivering lasting energy access.

With support from

The Repair Lab is supported by organisations that share our commitment to strengthening solar repair, extending product lifetimes and sustaining energy access.
